Have a question? Here’s what you might be wondering about the film, the campaign, or how we’re getting it made.

What is Colour Picture?
It’s a Canadian indie feature film. A psychological drama built around a murder mystery structure. Told over one week, it follows a detective who interviews a fractured family after the sudden death of a man named Hunter. The story unfolds through flashbacks, interviews, and emotional contradiction, revealing a deeper truth than any one version.

What is the crowdfunding goal?
We’re raising $15,000 CAD. That money goes entirely toward paying our cast and crew fairly at $300 per day for a 7-day shoot. The director is not taking a salary. All other costs, including gear, meals, insurance, post-production, and promotional assets, are covered through in-kind contributions.
If we reach our stretch goal of $20,000, we will also fund a small contingency reserve for emergencies.

When and where will it be filmed?
The film will be shot in Ottawa, Ontario, and surrounding areas. We are planning a 7-day shoot across three interior locations, targeted for late 2025 or early 2026, depending on funding and scheduling.

What inspired this story?
The film was born from lived experience, particularly the emotional silence and distortion many people grow up with in family systems. It’s a story about grief, performance, boundaries, and the narratives people construct to survive. It is quiet, raw, and emotionally charged created for audiences who see themselves in that space.

What does the colour symbolism mean?
Each character is emotionally linked to a specific colour:
Pink = performance and control
Green = envy and exclusion
Blue = anxiety and erasure
Red = passion and volatility

Colour appears in wardrobe, set design, and lighting. It is used to express emotional states without needing dialogue. Learn more on our Mood & Tone page.

What happens if you raise more than $15,000?
Any funds raised beyond the base goal will go directly into improving working conditions. This includes fully compensating all cast and crew across all shoot days, adding a small contingency buffer for emergencies, and possibly extending post-production capacity with sound mixing and festival submissions.
This project is structured for efficiency. Additional funds will never be wasted, only used to increase care and stability.

Will there be perks for backers?
Yes! Depending on the platform we use (Kickstarter, Indiegogo, etc.), backers may receive:
A thank-you in the credits
Early access to a digital screening
A downloadable script or creative materials
A limited edition poster
Executive Producer credit for higher-level supporters
Our goal is to offer perks that feel personal and aligned with the story we’re telling.

Where will the film be shown?
We plan to submit to Canadian and international festivals including TIFF Next Wave, Slamdance, Whistler, VIFF, and Cinefest. After our festival run, we hope to release the film through curated Canadian platforms such as CBC Gem, NFB, or Crave.
We are also exploring digital exhibition and community-driven screenings for broader accessibility.
